It may seem strange to create a checklist of items in your bathroom, but considering how much time we spend there, especially in these “everybody’s a homebody” times, it’s worth taking a quick scan around to consider what might add a little more comfort and pleasure to our bathroom oasis!
So, let’s take a look at some items ranging from “must-haves” to “I never thought of that!”, with some links to popular examples of each item.
- The Basics
✔️ Bath Mat: Choose something soft and comfortable to step onto, but also absorbent and – importantly – non-slip. Personally I prefer a luxury version of the hotel-style towel mat, because, unlike the kind with the rubber backing, they’re easy to pick up and toss in the wash – so they are easier to keep clean and less likely to develop mold on the underside that lurks undetected for who knows how long before you discover it!
✔️ Toilet Brush/Plunger Combo: You know what they say about toilet cleaning, it’s a dirty job but … Getting a combo set that stores together as one unit is a no-brainer, as sooner or later, we’re going to need both!
✔️ Shower Caddy
✔️ Countertop Accessories: Toothbrush Holder, Soap Dishes and Pads: Gotta keep those countertops organized, clean and free of soap and toothpaste gunk!
✔️ Shower Curtain: It’s partly about privacy, and partly about keeping the bathroom floor from being flooded. Choose a high quality one that is mold-resistant and can last a while; these are normally made from some type of plastic, and recyclability is questionable, so we don’t want to be throwing one of these in the landfill every month!
- A Little Comfort
✔️ Exfoliating Washcloths: Bodies have parts that like to be scrubbed, and parts that like to be caressed – so why not go for a washcloth that can give you the best of both worlds?
✔️ Hair Drying Towel Wrap: Ultra-soft, lightweight and comfortable, and they keep hair out of the way and your hands free while brushing, face cleansing etc. – you’ll wonder why you ever used a heavy old bath towel for drying your hair!
✔️ Konjac Facial Sponges: Natural, biodegradable, sustainable, vegan – these great little sponges are also safe and gentle on delicate facial skin. A win for beauty, and for the environment!
✔️ Soft Bristle Toothbrushes: if you’re like me and have sensitive gums, you’ll want to find a brush with extra soft bristles. Ours, linked here, has extra rows of soft bristles that are charcoal infused, so you get more coverage per stroke. Plus, the handles are made from eco-friendly bamboo – ditch the plastic!
✔️ Bath Pillow: Taking a little extra me-time for relaxation at bath time? You’ll want somewhere comfortable to rest your head!
- A Little Luxury
✔️Bathtub Caddy: These bath time enhancers exploded in popularity over the last couple of years, and why not – they let you set up your own little bath entertainment station – candles, a glass of wine, a book, tablet or phone for playing your zen-inducing soundtrack. Ahh.
✔️Candles: A little advice here: candles are great mood enhancers, both for the romantic lighting effect as well as the mood enhancing (relaxing or invigorating) scents they waft through the room – don’t settle for cheap candles, because I promise they are made with cheap paraffin wax and chemical fragrance oils that, while maybe sweet-smelling, are certainly not the healthiest option available. Go for candles made from high quality natural waxes like soy or beeswax, scented with natural essential oils – the scent will be lighter, and the candle will be more expensive – but you’re worth it!
✔️ Bathrobe: Finally, what better way to finish off a homebody spa session than slipping into a luxuriously soft, fluffy bathrobe? This, in a nutshell, is what I mean by enjoying the warmth, comfort and simple pleasures of being at home!
Well, that’s it for today folks – I gotta get my bath running. Let us know your favorite bathroom items, decorations and accessories. Which bathroom essentials would you tell your best friend to try?
